FACTS FIRST

Updated as of Oct 20, 2026 (CT)

Norman police calls and cases, 2016–2025

Built from the Norman Police Department's own yearly open-data files. Every location is shown only by hundred block ("4200 block of Main St"), never by house number; intersections and street-only records stay as NPD listed them. Sensitive records also drop case number and exact date.

Year over year

Cases by offense group, year over year

Each case counted once, under its most serious offense code as recorded by NPD. Codes 80–88 are NPD local (non-NIBRS) codes and are labeled as such.
"Cleared" counts cases whose NPD disposition label says cleared by arrest or by warrant, or that have an exceptional clearance recorded. These are NPD's own disposition labels. They are not the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting clearance rate, which is calculated differently and only for certain offenses.

Victims, by sex and race (selected years combined, totals only)

Traffic and parking stops, by type, race and sex (selected years combined, totals only)

Use of force (selected years combined, totals only)

Privacy

All map points are placed at the middle of their hundred block (the average position of addresses on that block, or a point rounded to about 100 m when the block has few addresses). House, unit and apartment numbers are removed everywhere, including the CSV download.

Some records are shown only by block ("1200 block of X St"), with no house number, case number or exact date (month only): sexual offenses; domestic, family and dating violence; child and vulnerable-adult abuse and neglect; offenses involving juveniles or minors; kidnapping; harassment, threats and stalking; welfare checks; medical, overdose, mental-health and suicide calls; deaths; missing and runaway people; protective orders and protective custody; and offender-registration matters. Any call or other record tied to one of those cases by case number is treated the same way. Their points sit at the center of the block, or on a coarser grid of about half a kilometer where a block has few addresses. For sexual offenses, offense and charge details are withheld. Victim, stop and use-of-force figures appear only as yearly totals, and counts under five are shown as "<5". NPD's files contain no names.

Methods

Data comes from the yearly spreadsheets on NPD's Open Data Portal for 2016–2025, downloaded Oct. 20, 2026. Arrests and offenses are joined to cases by case number. Cases are placed at the coordinates of their matching call for service. Only NPD's 2025 calls file includes coordinates. Earlier records are placed by matching their address to a point NPD published for the same address in 2025, then by the free U.S. Census Bureau geocoder (which estimates a position along the street, so it is marked approximate), then at the center of their block. Records placed at a block center are marked as approximate, and records that couldn't be placed appear in the CSV only. Types are NPD's own labels. For cases, the "Group" filter uses the NIBRS offense codes NPD recorded, with each case counted under its most serious code. Calls, collisions and stops carry no offense codes, so their groups are Facts First keyword groupings of NPD's labels. Records with no house number are placed at the nearest point where the two listed streets meet, from known address points within 120 meters, and are marked approximate. Use of force has no location in NPD's files, so it appears only as yearly totals. No file contains names. NPD has not published any 2026 files.
