Norman's Central Library: closed for mold since 2023, now in court into 2027
The $39 million Norman Forward library opened in November 2019 and has now been closed longer than it was open. The full record: what was built, what went wrong, what has been spent, and where the lawsuits stand.
What happened: Mold linked to water intrusion closed the library Nov. 15, 2023; the city declared it closed indefinitely April 12, 2024.
The lawsuits: The city sued the designers and builder (Flintco, MSR, ADG) in October 2024; the Pioneer Library System sued the city in August 2025; employees have filed mold-exposure suits.
The money: $35.0 million final build cost; about $900,000 in remediation by April 2024. Costs since then, legal fees and the repair bill have not been published.
Status: On Oct. 2, 2026, the parties jointly asked a judge to push deadlines back six months, into 2027. November mediation is postponed.
