Open the crime map →What happened: On Oct. 2, 2026, Cleveland County prosecutors charged Sara Polston with two felony counts of voting illegally (June 16 primary, Aug. 25 runoff), alleging she voted while serving a felony sentence.
Why it's unusual: Facts First found no other Oklahoma case of someone charged with voting while serving a felony sentence (a search with limits, explained in the full story), and she is the woman who was freed early on a DOC GPS program after a grand jury report examined calls from Gov. Kevin Stitt's office to the corrections director.
What isn't known: who gave the DA the "information" that started the case, and whether she knew she was ineligible to vote, which the State must prove.
Status: no plea, no hearing set as of Oct. 21. The case was reassigned to Chief Judge Lynne McGuire on Oct. 6, a defense attorney entered an appearance Oct. 5, and a writ to bring her from prison to court was issued Oct. 14 (OSCN). A charge is not a conviction; she is presumed innocent.

- Oct. 7: OSCN CF-2026-1029 lists a charge of murder in the second degree (filed Oct. 7 in Cleveland County District Court). Defendant: Brad Jones, 30, named in the City of Norman Oct. 9 release and in multiple news reports. A City of Norman / NPD release dated Oct. 9 says police arrested one person in connection with a Sept. 29 fatal collision in the 3600 block of Classen Boulevard and booked that person into the Cleveland County Detention Center on murder in the second degree; the release also says a juvenile passenger in the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Charged with murder in the second degree, 21 O.S. 701.8; a charge is not a conviction. KFOR reported Oct. 19 that the juvenile who died was Jones's 8-year-old son, and that both were ejected near Classen Boulevard and Cedar Lane; according to KFOR, police cited “indications … of some impairment” and blood was drawn, and search warrant papers describe slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and empty alcohol containers. Police have not publicly stated the basis for the murder charge; a charge is not a conviction. Interurban building (Ed Noble Pkwy) — buyer
Heard (unproven): The Interurban building sold. Nobody’s saying to whom.
Confirmed: The county assessor’s sales record for 1150 Ed Noble Pkwy shows a warranty deed dated Aug. 31, 2026. Seller: Interurban of Norman, LLC. Buyer: The Humphreys Company, LLC, an Oklahoma City real estate developer. Listed sale price: $1,000,000. That’s Deed Book 7016, Page 1298. The assessor puts the property’s 2026 market value at about $1.76 million (1.15 acres, 6,307 sq ft restaurant built in 2009). The restaurant closed Aug. 30, and its contents went to auction Sept. 15.
Not confirmed: What the buyer plans to build there. The city’s September and October planning agendas and its permit reports through September show nothing filed at the address.
Desk note: An empty building on the parkway usually doesn’t stay a restaurant. Sometimes it does. We’ll know when a permit shows up.

Derek Jeter-backed hotel, Campus Corner
Heard (unproven): A Derek Jeter-backed hotel is eyeing Campus Corner.
Confirmed: The company announced it Sept. 1. ALUM Inc., with Bartizan Capital, says it plans an all-suite hotel and private members club in the Campus Corner district. Jeter is an investor and board advisor. Reported plans: 50 to 75 suites, a rooftop pool, an event space for about 300 people, and a ground-floor cafe open to the public. Reported cost: $90 million to $100 million. Target: break ground in spring 2027 if the city approves. ALUM says it held a pre-application meeting with city planners and was told informally that the project fits current zoning. Bartizan says it’s working with “the current property owners,” so the site doesn’t appear to have been bought yet.
Not confirmed: Which block. The company hasn’t named the site. Nothing about ALUM appears on Planning Commission agendas through the Oct. 8 meeting or in city permit reports through September. ALUM said it would file construction documents within about two months, so watch for that by early November.
Desk note: Renderings are cheap and groundbreakings are not. This one is real enough to have a press release. Whether it’s real enough for a building permit, we don’t know yet.

Cheba Hut coming to Norman
Heard (unproven): Cheba Hut is coming to Norman. No address yet.
Confirmed: It’s coming. The Journal Record reported Sept. 1 that the Oklahoma ownership group opened its Edmond store and has a third location under construction in Norman. The group’s hiring page lists jobs at “Cheba Hut Norman-24th Ave NW.” Tatco Construction posted in September that it’s building the Norman store.
Not confirmed: The exact address and the opening date. The city’s June 2026 commercial permit report lists a $400,000 alteration permit (PRAD202602099, issued June 5) for 2,962 sq ft at 1800 24th Ave NW, with Tatco Construction as contractor. That’s a strip-center address on 24th Ave NW. The city report doesn’t name the tenant, so we can’t say it’s Cheba Hut until the company or the permit says so. No opening date has been announced.
Desk note: Tatco, 24th Ave NW, and a 2026 permit all point to the same spot. It’s still a rumor until they hang the sign.
